Game Of Self

Hey, what's up?

I hope all is well with you.

The "Game Of Self" is a song about truly being oneself. I've been on this journey of self discovery for a long time. In that process, I've come across many iterations of myself based on the experiences I've had. Different circumstances have brought to surface different versions of myself I hadn't yet encountered.

Isn't it funny how we have an ideal self we imagine ourselves to be? Being that self in three-dimensional everyday life seems to be a challenge. I guess that's why we make resolutions to become that person, the better version whenever a new year rolls around.

Being that change is the only constant we're guaranteed in life, I've come to realize that this process of evolving and growing through diferring versions of my self will not end. With that understanding, I've decided to become the CEO in this "Game Of Self" we call life. Someone has to manage all these iterations of self that form the totality of who I am being. I've decided to actively run the day-to-day operations of being me.

For a long time, I allowed external influences to affect my internal dialogue, while passively letting these vary selves compete for internal control. I've learned this doesn't have to be the case. Being CEO means I get to decide who I am being at all times.

This song is a personal manifesto, a declaration and a vow to myself to play the "Game Of Self" by my rules and no one else's. To be or not to be yourself is a question only you can answer. Bruce Lee said it best, "To express oneself honestly, not lying to oneself; that, my friend, is very hard to do."

With that said, I pray you all the best on your journey of being yourself. I have to go, I've got a self to be.
